Dear Soforal friends,
It has been an old dream to come to Africa. As this was the first time for me to travel so far with my boys, I really wanted to feel safe, so Africa would be a wonderful memory. And so it is! I felt very welcome, very safe with you people and I have enjoyed every minute. Thanks to you, I experienced the real Gambia. And I take a piece home in my heart. Abbarrakka Bakeh fang-fang!!!

It has been a very big and great experience to go to Africa with my little brother and my mother. We have seen a lot and it was nice here on Soforal. When my mom told me we were going to Africa, I was very surprised and happy at the same time. We were going to her ncousin Wim-la. I didn’t know what to expect but when I came to Soforal, I really liked it. The people at Soforal were/are very nice to me, so I felt comfortable very fast. I really experienced Gambia, because I have seen a lot of culture. But we leave tomorrow 

“What a wonderful place this is, a beautiful oasis in the most unexpected location. Wim came to greet us as we arrived with Lamin, our taxi driver, and having asked him if we could eat lunch here, we were invited to join some guests for a meal that was being prepared.
We went off first to search for the cache, and it was found with no difficulty, then we returned to the restaurant area for cool drinks and a delicious lunch in the company of Wim and the other guests. We enjoyed chatting with all of them, and once the meal was finished Wim gave us a tour of his guest rooms, which are most impressive.
This is a friendly, and quiet place, a real retreat from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas, and we thank the CO for placing a cache here to bring us to this area.
Thanks too to Wim and his guests for making us so welcome, and we heartily recommend all geocachers who can make the journey to visit this place, you won't be disappointed. Many thanks for this cache, and I award it a favourite point.

Today I went with the taxidriver and my gambian daughters to this nice place. It was really warm, but it was a nice trip from Kotu to Berrending. Lucky there were people inside.
After a drink Amina and Jainaba tried to find the box, with success. They were very happy, it was their second box.
I wrote something in the book, but later on I thought I forgot my name. We put a tb inside, the other one we didn't see.
After walking in the garden we went away, back to the hotel.

Uitermate vriendelijk ontvangen. Na een rondleiding hebben we gezien wat "back to basic" betekend. Eenvoudig maar erg netjes en rustgevend. Beetje hulp van witje10 en de cach snel gevonden. Toplocatie!!!

Na twee jaar verhalen te hebben gehoord over hoe leuk het toch wel was in Ganbia / Soforal, was het dit keer mijn beurt. En weet je; het is inderdaad verschikkelijk leuk geweest. Geen onvertogen word, alleen maar vrolijke koppen. Zelfs als daar geen reden toe was. Good morning, everything fine? Did you sleep well? Heb gelachen, gewerkt en wat al niet meer.
Dank voor alle gastvrijheid. Een warm land met hartelijke mensen. Een aanrader voor elke chagrijn, want je komt er vrolijk van thuis. Ook voor optimisten kan het hier niet stuk.

9 december aankomst op Soforal. Een heel fijn ontvangst, of dat ik niet weg ben geweest. Een paar dagen rust genomen en lekker aan het werk gegaan in de bloementuin. Een fijne omgang met de jongens, stonden direct voor me klaar. Slapen en eten perfect.
De eerste dagen gaven me gelijk het gevoel thuis te zijn; het zal ook niet de laatste keer zijn.. Ik wil dan ook iedereen bedanken voor de fijne tijd die ik heb gehad.

Aan Wim en de hele ploeg van Soforal een dikke merci!
Ik heb genoten van mijn twee weken hier. LEKKER getekend, LEKKER gegeten, redelijk LEKKER geslapen, heerlijk LEKKER gedouched, LEKKER gewandeld en last but not least….. LEKKER gezelschap!
Deze reis heeft me erg geinspireerd. De plaatselijke bevolking heeft me geraakt door hun gastvrijheid en hun verhalen. Deze ervaring is voor herhaling vatbaar. Bedankt!

Dear people of Soforal,
Drie weken geleden was Soforal een onbekend woord voor ons. Nu is Soforal een betekenisvolle belevenis, een gastvrije, warme, vriendelijke en sfeervolle oase in Gambia.
Wim is de wijze koning, die volhumor en compassie de scepter zwaait. Hij wee twat hij wil en staat heel prettig open voor de omgeving, het team en de gasten.
Bubacar is de ideale gids, oplettend, zachtaardig, en zeer informatief. We ervaren hem al seen warme persoonlijkheid.
Rasta is de veelzijdige grappenmaker die er op speelse wijze voor zorgde dat we ons meteen thuis voelen. We hebben lekker gekletst op weg naar een frisse duik in de rivier.
Lamin ‘you know’, stoer en toch fijngevoelig, tracteerde ons op prachtige muziek, ook in de workshop, Soforal Ayé! Hij was ook de ideale bodyguard in de disco.
Caddy, de ‘powerwoman’ van deze mannenclub is goedlachs en kookt heerlijk en wast ongelooflijk schoon. We genoten van haar dans bij het kampvuur.
Ton droeg met zijn humor, ‘dacht het wel!’, enorm bij aan de sfeer. Manaseh, ‘the beaty’, Lamindemba, ‘de vrolijke springer’.

Dear Wim and crew,
In our preparation for our holiday to the Gambia, we only saw some pictures of Soforal on Facebook. The reason why we have choosen Soforal was because of it was far from touristic places. In our wishes to learn ‘the inside’ of a country we have choosen for a place in the neighborhood of the local villages and people. Soforal gave us that to us, even as hospitality, kindness interest and the wisdom that we didn’t have to live on the clock.
The crew was very helpful, the guests friendly to enjoy our holiday with. The activities were diverse and we had the opportunity and time to discuss them with you. We enjoyed our stay with you very much!!!
We wish you all the best with your lodge and we thank you very much for your giving us the feeling ‘to be at home’.

Beste Wim,
Op weg naar Gambia wisten we nog niet wat ons te wachten strond. Wat een vriendelijkheid hebben we mogen krijgen van jou, je staff en de mensen die in Berending wonen.
Soforal was een heerlijke thuisbasis van waaruit we erg leuke activiteiten hebben ondernomen, ook dankzij jullie inzet. Heelijk relaxte sfeer,en lekker etten door Kaddie bereid. We vonden het nieuwjaarsconcert op de djembe o.l.v. Lamin helemaal geweldig, wat een enthousiasme van hem en zijn groep. Rasta was een klasse apart, met zijn vriendelijke lach en coole drankjes. Ook het gezelschap met de andere gasten vonden we heel leuk.
Wim, Kaddie, Rasta, Lamin, Bubacar, Djee and all others from the staff, thank you very much for your hospitality. We had a wonderfull stay. Lots of love,

On a beautiful day in The Gambia I contacted Obama once again to go in search of this cache. This was the only active one in the country he had not been to. The drive down the coast was uneventful but amazing as usual. We turned off the Coastal Highway to arrive at what we thought was a local compound.
We were immediately greeted by Wim (owner of the place) and realized we had found what we consider is an amazing lodge nestled in the countryside. Wim was shocked we had come to find the cache as his brother from The Netherlands had placed it several months ago while visiting and we were the first to locate it. I think being the FTF and discovering this place rated high on my list of all the caches I have found. Wim treated us like royalty. We were shown the rooms and the rest of the lodge that has only been built in the last couple of years. After signing the cache and taking photos, we were treated to drinks to celebrate the occasion. While not having some of the comforts we are accustomed to this place offers a very clean, traditional experience I look forward to staying at during my next visit and would recommend. While we are not supposed to advertise places, I think a place like this deserves recognition. Please email me more information if you are interested.

My Englich is not very good, but I like to write in English so everyone can read. Our holiday was so very very good! The most we loved were the people: everybody is so very nice, we’re feeling so welcome everywhere we go!!
And then Soforal, you are great!!
For us it was the first time in Africa, and believe us; we had a great time. We’re feeling so welcome. Everybody give a hand, asked how we’re doing, help us when we need it, it was great! The garden looks wonderful, the meals are lovely, the music sounds so very nice, the guesthouse, toilet, showers; very nice to see. We have felt like it’s our home.

I was here for two weeks to relax. And I did, lying in the hangmat with my music at my ears and most of the time a book. Lunch together, dinner together.
It was so nice. I love the place, the way you build Soforal and the way you manage it all together, it has my respect!

It was my third time that I was in the Gambia. But now I see for the first time how nice it is. I love the village Berending, the people are nice, the village is quiet.

So, I will be back!! When?? Inshalla!

Lieve mensen van Soforal,
Onze eeste kennismaking met Gambia is dankzij jullie heel goed geweest. Wat een cultuurschok, de autorit naar Soforal en wat een heerlijke plek om hier te zijn. We hebben niet met iedereen evenveel contact gehad, maar met elkaar maken jullie er een hele fijne plek van! Dank jullie wel, we zullen het niet gauw vergeten. We hebben ons hier thuis gevoeld en ondanks ons drukke programma kwamen we hier tot rust.

Wim dank je wel voor je attente zorg voor ons.! Niets was je te veel en vaak dacht je voor ons. Bedankt voor je gesprekken tijdens de avondmaaltijd, je gaf inzicht en het was gezellig!
Ik wens je toe dat je lodge een verblijf mag zijn voor velen en dat je mag genieten van de mooie plek die je hebt gemaakt!
Als we ooit nogmaals naar Gambia komen (wat zeker een wens is!), dan is er maar één plek waar ik zou willen zijn: Soforal!

Het was hier geweldig samen met xx, die voor het eerst buiten zijn eigen compound kwam. We hebben hier een weekend geslapen. Het eten was hier ook erg goed en heel gezellig met iedereen.

We zijn hier voor een paar dagen. Ooit hebben we het hier al seen kale en onontgonnen vlakte gezien, maar moet je nu eens zien wat er staat en gegroeid is! Geweldig!
En… het wordt mooier en mooier! Elk jaar zie ik positieve veranderingen en dan al die mooie beelden en artistieke details overall!

Twee maal drie dagen in Soforal, een eerste kennismaking met het project, met Gambia, hernieuwing van de vriendschap met Wim en toch te weinig tijd voor dit alles. Soforal heeft alle ingrediënten om tot een success uit te groeien. Maar wat er verder ook gebeurt, Wim, jij hebt het grootste deel van je droom al verwezenlijkt.

SOFORAL WE LOVE SOOOO MUCH!

+ Lots of flowers, plants and trees
+ Nice rooms
+ Very friendly staff
+ Good mattresses (so far the best once we experienced in the Gambia/Senegal)
+ Liked the musicians at night and the fire
+ So calm
+ Water in the showers wasn’t too cold; it was nice
+ Clean
+ Lamps for each room
+ Very nice combined landscape
+ Very peacefull atmosphere

- blanckets too thin; please organize thicker ones; it gets cold at night
- didn’t like the jam (imported from Belgium) and the mayonnaise (imported from the Netherlands); we suggest try to get homemade jam from locals, it tastes better and helps the people here.

Ja, wat gaik hier schrijven?
Ik ben erg onder de indruk van het geheel. De opzet, de rust, wat het uitstraalt. Het geheel ziet er erg mooi en fris uit. Voel me er erg op mijn gemak, voel me hier al thuis. Ook jouw verhaalm de inzet en het geloof er in is goed en het komt goed.
Heel veel succes op deze schitterende plek.

Hallo Wim,
Wij mochten meegaan naar jouw lodge. We hadden van alles verwacht, maar bij het zien van al die gebouwen, de inrichting van alles wat je hebt opgezet, is gewoon grandioos.
Ook de rust die je hier meemaakt en de eenvoud van alles. Dit maakt het totaal iets, wat niemand die ‘t niet gezien heeft kan geloven.
De spontaniteit van jou en de lerares alsmede je medewerkers was zo spontaan en oprecht dat we hier zouden willen blijven logeren.
Jou en je team nog heel veel success wensend met dit fantastische plan en prachtige lodge. Hou het zo want dit is de plaats waar iemand voldoening en rust kan vinden.

After three days in Soforal we left your beautiful lodge. We have fun and much sun. We had a warm welcome and weather.
Inspiration and power. A beautiful African story! To see the stars. Hear the music from the locals. A walk with Rasta and many children. Thanks.
We hebben erg genoten van de relaxte sfeer en het echte Gambia. Allemaal vriendelijke vrolijke mensen! Allemaal deden ze heel erg hun best om het ons naar de zin te maken. En Tida heerlijk gekookt voor ons!
We enjoyed our staying in Soforal. It was a perfect experience instead of (only) laying on the beach. We also met a lot of friendly people. We will ‘never’ forget them.
Ending our adventure; it were 2 beautoful days with beautiful and nice people who takes good care about us. It were days back to basic, what is good to do it for everyone. But sometimes it was too warm for us, especially at night.
I hope that you can go on with your ideology but that you also can do consessions when you have to do it.

Dear brothers and sisters!
Thank you all again for the great two weeks, I really enjoyed again! As I told you before I am impressed with what you all build here and I’m happy to see that the lodge is finished, what a beautiful atmosphere inside and in all the rooms, I really love it! (Hopefully all the leaks in the rooms will be closed soon so the beds will stay dry)
The food was again delicious, thank you Kaddy for everyday cooking and to teach me how to make the fishbullets.
Compliments too on the beautifl garden, I know it takes a lot of work but you all do a great job. So keep all the goats out by closing the fences because otherwise all your hard work is done for nothing .

Thanks also for taking care of my mother while she was here, I was really touched when we all plant a tree for her in the garden with the small ceremony. I will never forget!
As I told you I had the first night here a wonderful dream about Soforal in which it was very successful and there were lots of happy tourists enjoying themselves. It takes time to build a business but the most important thing is to believe in it and I know you all do that so keep the dream alive and everything will be allright!

It was nice to stay here. I was there with my daughter and sister of Wim. We enjoyed every day. Today I am leaving. Jules thank you for planting a tree so I am every day here.!

Dear all, Wim, Lamin, Rasta, Juul, Daddy, Bubacar,
Such a warm and lovely welcome! We had a wonderful stay and were surprised by the beautiful rooms and lovely gardens. We travelled for 13 months on the bicycle and had some problem with the wheels… the sister of Wim was so nice to bring new ones… and we never met before. So special!! And that’s the feeling what we’ve got here: special place, special people and a nice different way to have this place with the wonderful team. Together we can!! So let’s do it all!! Thanks for the heartwarming stay!
